CHICAGO IVF: WHAT IT IS AND IT'S BENEFITS?

With advancements in both technology and medicine, many procedures and treatments are available now that weren't available years before. A common problem with women, most common with increase in age, is infertility, or the inability to have kids on their own. While this is a common occurrence with women past a certain age, there are methods that can help get past this condition, one popular method is called IVF or in vitro fertilization.

WHAT IS GENERAL IVF?

IVF is a procedure usually used as a last choice option where other reproductive methods have failed. IVF is likened to other reproductive operations like egg freezing and sperm injections. IVF was first established in 1978, with the first successful baby being born the same year. Robert Edwards, a physiologist who later won the Nobel Peace Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2010, established the method.

THE IVF PROCESS:

The process of IVF is actually pretty simple, contrary to popular belief that it is a complex or difficult one. Simply put, their are two ways one can indulge in a IVF method, one by drug intake, the other naturally. Natural IVF deals with no drug intake were Mild IVF deals with little drug intake to speed up the process. IVF is the extracting of a woman's eggs from their home in her ovaries. Once the eggs are extracted, they are fertilized through mixing with semen/sperm to create a fertilized egg. Once the egg is ready for insertion back into the women, the women will then have a higher chance of a pregnancy and childbirth. It should be noted that when this process is occurring, although it may seem barbaric, it is actually handled in an easy and harmless way, with the women being sedated and unconscious.


BENEFITS OF IVF:

IVF has many potential benefits for its users, mostly for those who have trouble rendering childbirth. It is often used as a last option, when other infertility solutions have failed. IVF pregnancy rates vary with countries, however they are usually pretty successful, with the lowest country of Canada being 35% and the highest being UK with almost 70%. Most of the successful pregnancies resulted in healthy offspring also, with most of the offspring living past childbirth. Although this process can help a variety of women, typically younger, healthier women experience success in contrast to older unhealthy women.
