On this episode of the MIX SECRETS TV, Enrico De Paoli quickly shows what a COMB FILTER caused by a 1ms and a 2ms delay on simultaneous audio signals may do to the quality of your sound.
This is a typical scenario of sound being reproduced by multiple speakers arriving at the listener at very close (but not equal) times. Or a sound source miced by a multiple microphone array, causing small variations of time to be summed together from that single sound source. Or a doubled track in a DAW where one of them has latency from plugins (parallel compression?!). Or acoustic sound reflections... Or any other situation where you may end up with the same sound source being heard at multiple delayed times. This will inevitably cause very bad sounding phase cancellations. And remember: the consequences of this CANNOT be fixed with EQing!
