Описание: I started this journey from Gupis on my motorcycle. Talidas Lake is only about a 20-minute ride from Gupis, and I wanted to see with my own eyes the place that suddenly became one of the biggest stories in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Talidas Lake is a temporary artificial lake in Ghizer District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It was formed in August 2025 after a powerful Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF). What looks like a beautiful blue lake today actually has a heartbreaking story behind it.

When the glacier burst high in the mountains, huge amounts of rocks, mud, and ice rushed toward Talidas village. Thankfully, local shepherds (Bakarwals) were already in the upper mountains early that morning. They noticed the danger and quickly warned the villagers. Because of this timely alert, there was no loss of human life. Alhamdulillah, everyone managed to move to safety before the disaster reached the village.

Although no lives were lost, the financial damage was devastating. Talidas village was buried under massive amounts of rocks, mud, and debris. Homes, farmland, and people's belongings were destroyed within a very short time.

The flood debris blocked the flow of the Ghizer River, creating a natural dam. As the river water had nowhere to go, it started collecting behind the blockage. Day by day, the water level continued to rise, eventually forming what is now known as Talidas Lake.

As Talidas Lake expanded, several nearby villages were affected. Around 900 homes were impacted as the rising water submerged houses, agricultural land, and important community buildings. Schools, mosques, and health facilities also suffered major damage, while sections of the Gilgit–Shandur Road were washed away, cutting off access to Yasin, Phander, and nearby valleys.

Today, Talidas Lake attracts visitors because of its stunning turquoise water and breathtaking mountain scenery. However, behind this beautiful landscape lies a painful reminder of the power of nature and the hardships faced by local communities.

In this video, I will show you the complete journey from Gupis to Talidas Lake, the current condition of the lake, the submerged villages, and the real story behind how Talidas Lake was formed. You will also see the affected areas, local life, and the incredible beauty of Gilgit-Baltistan from a different perspective.
