Do you sit all day? If so make sure to stretch that side body! Side stretches work to release tension from the muscles that attach to the ribs (Quadratus Lumborum, Latissimus Dorsi, Serratus Anterior, the Obliques) along with the intercostal muscles that are located between the ribs. By stretching this area you can allow the ribs to move in their full range of motion, and the lungs to effectively respond as you increase and decrease the volume while breathing. Focus on increasing your breath while holding over into the side bend to increase the capacity of the lung in a lateral position.
