How Sponge Filters Work

Описание: Probably the most overlooked and underrated filter in all of aquatics. It is one of the most simplest and effective form of filtering. In fact if almost every form of filter has some kind of sponge in it. In Europe if you look at many of their filters, its just mostly layers of sponges. It does mechanical and biological filtration and performance of them varying on application. Sponges will last pretty much until the material its self starts to break down or rip. You can continually and periodically rinse it until that time comes, to keep it from being clogged. I think everyone should have some kind in all their aquariums. Its usefulness and practicality can not be denied. My favorite are the ATI Hydro Sponge (models are as follows: I, II, III, IV, V) and I use them as supplemental filters and usually go a size or 2 bigger than what it suggests (not necessary). I prefer to use the air pump due to its better performance biologically. Of course the choice is yours; you really cant go wrong with one. If you have any questions just let me know.
