Nuclear deal remains elusive after first round of talks with Iran

Описание: Indirect nuclear talks between the United States and Iran over the weekend produced little progress but set the stage for further negotiations as President Donald Trump weighs new military action and Tehran keeps up its threats of a regional war breaking out.

Hopes of getting Iran back into a nuclear deal face steep obstacles as the U.S. pushes for tougher limits on uranium enrichment that Tehran has rejected, even as the ruling regime faces threats to its hold on power.
The weekend negotiations were the first in a renewed effort by the Trump administration to get Iran to agree to curtail its nuclear program that suffered major setbacks during last year’s war Israel but remains a potent threat to the region’s long-term security.

Trump described the initial discussions as “very good” and said additional talks were to come. He has repeatedly threatened to use military force to pressure Iran into a deal over its nuclear program and sent aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the region along with other warships and missile defense assets.
But he has also given mediators room for more diplomatic efforts, telling reporters on Air Force One on Friday that “we’re in no rush.”
