Algeria - Victims speak of massacre

Women whose children and other family members have been killed in the latest massacres in Algeria described on Friday (17/10) the frightening circumstances of their death. Algeria has been in a state of virtual civil war since 1992, when the government cancelled elections the Islamic Salvation Front was poised to win. Since then, more than 60,000 people
have died, many in attacks by Islamic militants.

SOT (unnamed woman): "They surrounded the area so we couldn't go out. We tried to hide but there was nowhere to go. They said "don't be afraid, come out of your house". We started to shout and cry. I then ran out onto my balcony. I couldn't see my husband but I knew they shot him. They killed everyone else as well";
SOT (unnamed woman): "Some people were killed by razors and others by bullets. One man in the house escaped but all the others were killed. My little girl was slaughtered. She was only 2 years old and was with her grandfather who was also killed";
