A record of a late afternoon in 2004 spent at the Central Ferry Piers on Hong Kong Island watching ferries arriving from and departing to the outlying islands.
The triple deck, double deck and fast ferries with the green, white, orange and black hull colours (reminiscent of Glasgow Corporation Tramways’ livery) were operated by New World First Ferries on services to the outlying islands of Cheung Chau, Peng Chau and Lantau. Most of the vessels seen were formerly owned by the Hong Kong & Yaumati Ferry Company, which had relinquished its ferry route franchises back in 1999.
The smaller blue-hulled ferries seen are operated by the Hong Kong Kowloon Ferry Company, which was formed in 1998 to take over HYFCo services to Lamma Island.
