British tartans, tweeds, and jumpers (sweaters) are well known around the world. In this highly illustrated lecture, Sharon Hudgins will explain the importance of the British wool industry from the Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution to today, including how technology, trade, and fashion have affected the production of woolens in Britain and beyond.
Sharon Hudgins is an award-winning author who has been a speaker on numerous tours for National Geographic, Smithsonian, and Viking Cruises. She is also a spinner and weaver who has been fascinated with wool since childhood, has taught courses in textile arts, and has photographed sheep, textile crafts, and textile equipment around the world.
