You can make isometric maps with Unity's default tilemap, even before they roll out their isometric feature.
This quick demo (1 day!) shows how to organize your tiles, tilemaps and colliders to get a quick working prototype.
There is more to do, of course. A good atlas always has continuous pixels. I did it halfways here and ended up turning point filtering on, but edges can still be seen for solid tiles with transparent neighbors.
I show a very basic sorting technique here, but care must be taken: if your sprite is taller than 2 tiles, you'll see it go behind the 2nd floor. There are more sorting options for tilemaps.
