After losing my job in a big city, I drove 1,000 kilometers back to my small hometown for Chinese New Year.
Every year, hundreds of millions of people in China travel home during what is often called the largest annual human migration in the world — the Spring Festival travel rush. Trains, highways, and cities become incredibly crowded, but no matter how difficult the journey is, people still go home.
In China, there’s an old saying:
“No matter if you have money or not, you must go home for the New Year.”
This video is a simple record of my 18-hour drive — from uncertainty and long highways to finally sitting down at home with a bowl of dumplings.
No job. Long road. But home.
