The nor’easter came through on Halloween and knocked out our power for more than 24 hours. With the wind howling and rain pouring, Zach and I spent the night by lantern light — tending the fire and listening to the storm.
The next day, we made the most of the daylight: loading a 12-foot oak log onto the trailer with a come-along so we can take it to the mill, stacking more firewood, and pruning the shrubs for winter.
It wasn’t the weekend we planned, but it ended up being exactly what we needed — quiet, productive, and a reminder of why we love this slower pace of country living.
