If the river has a tea-colour, or tannin stained water, is it good or bad for fishing ? The short answer? It is usually excellent for fishing. That "tea-color" is essentially a natural camouflage that changes the rules of the game for both the fish and the angler.
Tannins come from decaying organic matter like leaves, bark, and roots. While it looks like pollution to the untrained eye, it’s actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.
In this waterway in West Gippsland, the tannin water sure has sided with me and I managed to catch some trout.
