Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (PS2) - Part 1 (No Commentary) [HAPPY 20th ANNIVERSARY DMC3!]

Описание: Happy 20 years of DMC3! Debatably my favorite game of all time and something I never get tired of going back to. As this is the anniversary of the initial release on PS2, I decided to play the original version... from North America. Probably should have gone with the Japanese release in retrospect since that's the one that actually came out today, and you can play it in English on top of that, but hey why not make things unnecessarily harder for myself?

For those who don't know, when DMC3 was released on PS2, there were a number of changes made in the Western release compared to the Japanese original which made it a more difficult game generally. Easy mode was cut, with the difficulties listed as Easy and Normal are actually the Japanese versions Normal and Hard respectively, and on top of that Hard mode in this version was a new difficulty created exclusively for this version, which later became Very Hard in DMC3 Special Edition. Beyond those changes, the Japanese version featured unlimited continues at checkpoints, and a Gold Orb revival system that was basically taken from DMC2. In the Western release, continues are now limited by the amount of Yellow Orbs you have, functioning sort of like lives which is similar to how DMC1 handled it but the checkpoints are now spaced out more as opposed to just sending you one room back. DMC3SE would later merge the two versions, but at launch this is what we got here in the US. Seeing as how SE released next year in 2006, I figured I'd go with the one that actually came out 20 years ago today (though technically US DMC3 was released March 1st).

Now I'm going to be handing this game a bit differently than DMC1 for a couple reasons:

Firstly, DMC3 introduced the style system for Dante which gives him access to 4 different fighting styles (technically 6, but we don't get the other two until later in the game) and as such I wanted to show each off. Generally I'm going in the order of Trickster, Royal Guard, Sword Master, Gunslinger, however the final 4 missions will be a bit different as I'm not fighting the final boss with gunslinger, it's just not good enough for that fight in my opinion.

Secondly, DMC3 lets you change costumes on the same save file unlike the first game. 2 also had this but for right now I'm skipping it as it's this game's anniversary, and also I just didn't want to play 2 right now if I'm being honest. My order of costumes is gonna be shirtless, default, DMC1, DMC1 coatless, Sparda for the first 15 missions and then I'll be changing them up for the last 5 so that we end with default Dante.

Finally, DMC3 introduces the ability to go straight from the end of a mission to the mission select screen, letting you instantly replay any mission you've completed. I basically decided to go through every mission 4 times to level up all the styles to be about the same, as they level separately and if I didn't do this I'd never get any to level 3. I did record the other styles versions of missions so I might upload those takes later or use them in a bonus episode to show some cool other ways to fight certain bosses. Beyond that, it's a good way to get more red orbs for upgrades and new moves, which I will be showing here. They're a lot more expensive in 3, but orbs are more plentiful in this compared to DMC1&2. My orb count is going to jump around a lot but it should make things go a lot smoother.

For this part I go through the first 3 missions. I also cut the full intro of the game as it's the same as the first cutscene, so no reason to watch it twice, but I did include the title drop from the end of it. Also I tried to show some of the text blurb things in the environment but I forget where they all are in 3 and there are also way less of them than DMC1. If I randomly attack a wall or something, it's because I thought one was there.
