In this Claremont bee removal, I uncovered a massive beehive hidden under a fake garden rock that was covering a valve box. The discoloration told me right away this was an older hive — and sure enough, it was packed with brood, honey, pollen, and a giant cluster of bees.

The bees were definitely not happy once that stone was lifted. They were going absolutely wild. I carefully pre-cut the honeycomb, separating the honey from the brood so I could safely relocate the colony without crushing or damaging the larvae. You could clearly see the different shades of brood — older capped brood and fresh larvae — which we made sure to preserve.

There was a lot of honey built up in this garden hive, so I bagged up the excess honeycomb and focused on saving the brood comb for the relocation box. I gently scooped the bees by hand into the hive box, working quickly but carefully to avoid injuring them. Once everything was spaced properly inside the box, the colony began settling in almost immediately.
We left the relocation box onsite for 5–10 days so the remaining foragers could enter and fully transition into their new hive.
