Light | Basic Concepts in Kabbalah

Описание: While we can say that there is a “Creator” as the source of light, when we actually talk about the Creator we always talk from the viewpoint of the created beings, we can never talk about the Creator or the light that extends from Him in and of themselves. We are only talking about our own impressions of the Creator and His light. We are only talking about what we can grasp, discern, attribute and sort out.

The receiving, perceiving person feels as light the influence one can attribute to the Creator. And each grasps and discerns these influences differently in their own way according to their own personal qualities.

How we discern and sense the light depends on many conditions, on the desire of the person, on the response we give to it, what level of equivalence of form we achieved with the Creator’s qualities, and so on.

There is some resemblance between spiritual light and corporeal light - like the light of the sun for example. As Kabbalists describe, when we start feeling something from the upper radiation it awakens us and scrutinizes certain things for us.

Just like the light of the Sun helps us see with our physical eyes what is around us in the corporeal world, in the same way, in the spiritual light we start to identify where we are in the spiritual reality.

The spiritual light is not the direct source of corporeal light. On the other hand, as corporeal light sustains life on Earth, spiritual light sustains spiritual life. Perceiving spiritual light has nothing to do with the senses and faculties we use to perceive corporeal light.

Spiritual light is related only to our desires to the measure we can be impressed by the Creator’s influence over the created beings. And that depends only on the measure of bestowal we develop from ourselves towards the Creator. Spiritual perception depends on how we react to the Creator’s influence on us, that we start to relate to Him exactly how He relates to us - through mutual bestowal.
