A passenger on a train to Manchester says she was left traumatised after being trapped inside the toilet for almost two hours. Robin Smith eventually had to be cut out by firefighters after a malfunctioning automatic door left her stuck inside the small loo.
The 35-year-old, who is severely claustrophobic, says she almost fainted twice during the shocking incident. Keen athlete Robin booked an £89 seat on the CrossCountry rail service from Southampton Central to Piccadilly last Saturday (January 24).
Robin, from Southampton, was travelling north with her long-term partner Angus Jones to take part in a HYROX event, when her day was turned upside down. After popping to the loo, she got stuck inside the toilet after the electric doors refused to open.
After Angus was alerted, staff were informed of the problem. However, she could not be freed and Robin has described chaotic scenes during which she said she believed staff didn't know what to do.
