Morning walk to Ashram "Prasanthi Nilayam" - Nov 17, 2023

Every morning I walk from my beautiful flat (thank you Swami and Gunaranjan!) at about 6 am to the Prasanthi Nilayam ashram for morning prayers and the best breakfast in the hole universe: Upma at the South Indian Canteen. Although almost 2 km, it is a wonderful walk passing all these beautiful buildings: the Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music, the Sri Sathya Sai International Centre for Sports, the hostels for junior and senior students, the Sri Sathya Sai Space Theatre (Planetarium), the Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School and the Sri Sathya Sai University. Before passing through the third gate, my eyes always turn to the Sai Ma Hotel. There I had my very first meeting with Ramesh Kasturi, the nephew of Sai Baba's biographer, from which a deep and intimate friendship grew. He coined the beautiful words "Lovers of Mother Earth" for both of us.
Ramesh once told me this story:
He was still very small and had only 20% vision - he could only see people dimly, could not recognise faces clearly, etc. One day, a mobile health centre with eye specialists from Bangalore came to Puttaparthi to help people with eye problems. Ramesh, with his unconditional devotion, asked Swami whether he can be examined. "Yes, go."
After a while, Ramesh returned and told Swami the diagnosis: it was a little more complicated and he would have to go to Bangalore with them. "Yes, go." Ramesh gathered all his courage and asked Swami if He could help him. Swami replied with His typical humour: "Well then, come here, you little one with the big frog eyes", spat into His left hand, materialised Vibuthi, mixed it with the spit and spread this paste on Ramesh's eyes. The doctors arrived, urged him to leave and asked if Ramesh wanted to come with them.
Ramesh replied with a trembling voice and tears in his eyes:
"No, I can see everything clear." ...

Jeden morgen gehe ich ungefähr um 6 Uhr von meiner schönen Wohnung (Danke Swami und Gunaranjan!) in den Ashram Prasanthi Nilayam für die Morgengebete und das beste Frühstück im ganzen Universum: Upma in der South Indian Canteen.
Obwohl fast 2 km ist es ein wunderbarer Spaziergang, vorbei an all diesen wunderschönen Gebäuden: das Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music, das Sri Sathya Sai International Centre for Sports, die Hostels for junior and senior students, das Sri Sathya Sai Space Theatre (Planetarium), die Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School and die Sri Sathya Sai Universitiy.
Vor dem Durchschreiten des dritten Tores richten sich meine Blicke immer auf das Sai Ma Hotel. Dort hatte ich meine allererste Begenung mit Ramesh Kasturi, dem Neffen von Sai Baba’s Biographen, aus der eine tiefe und innige Freundschaft erwuchs. Er prägte für uns beide die schönen Worte „Lovers of Mother Earth“.
Ramesh erzählte mir einmal diese Geschichte:
Er war noch sehr klein und hatte nur 20% Sehkraft – er konnte Menschen nur schemenhaft sehen, keine Gesichter klar erkennen usw. Eines Tages kam eine mobile Krankenstation mit Augenärzten aus Bangalore nach Puttaparthi um Menschen mit Augenleiden zu helfen. Ramesch fragte mit seiner bedingungslosen Hingabe Swami, ob er sich untersuchen lassen dürfe. „Yes, go.“
Nach einer Weile kehrte Ramesh zurück und erzählte Swami die Diagnose: es wäre bei ihm etwas komplizierter und er müßte mit nach Bangalore fahren. „Yes, go.“ Ramesh nahm all seinen Mut zusammen und bat Swami, ob Er ihm nicht helfen könnte. Swami antwortete mit Seinem so typischen Humor: „Na dann komm schon her, du Kleiner mit den großen Froschaugen“, spuckte in Seine linke Hand, materialisierte Vibuthi-Asche, mischte diese mit der Spucke und strich diesen Brei auf Ramesh’s Augen. Schon kamen auch die Augenärzte, drängten zur Abfahrt und fragten, ob Ramesh denn nun mit nach Bangalore kommen möchte.
Ramesh antworte mit bebender Stimme und Tränen in den Augen:
„No, I can see everything clear.“ …
