Lacrimosa was written in memory of my father, Len Morlock. The first two sections of the piece set a section of the Requiem mass, mourning and hoping for eternal rest for the departed loved one.
The inspirations for the final, unvoiced section were the last line of Michael Ondaatje’s poem Sweet Like a Crow, which reads “like the sound I heard when having an afternoon sleep and someone walked through my room in ankle bracelets” — that, and a lingering sense after my father’s passing that he was still, somehow, in the atmosphere with us.

Erato note: As Jocelyn wrote this for her father, we now dedicate this to her memory. She was a bright light in the contemporary music scene, and was well-loved here in Vancouver.
