Last week, we encountered two separate cases where patients and their caregivers requested hospital-to-hospital transfers—a request patients have a legal right to make.
In both cases, families were told:
• there were no available beds
• or no receiving physician
But when the receiving hospitals were contacted directly, they confirmed something alarming:
They were never called.
In both situations, Global PAD Association PAD Navigators had to step in to advocate—ensuring one patient was successfully transferred, and another safely discharged and driven by a caregiver to a different hospital.
So we’re asking the hard questions in this episode:
• Is this a widespread problem?
• Why would a hospital discourage or delay a transfer request?
• Are patients being given incomplete or inaccurate information?
• What other situations leave patients feeling hospitals aren’t being straight with them?
• And most importantly—what rights do patients and caregivers actually have?
This episode is not about blaming providers.
It’s about transparency, patient rights, and safety—especially for people facing limb- or life-threatening vascular disease.
Because when time matters, truth matters more.
