The dross press cools the dross preserving aluminum units. Plus gets good drain and does not generate smoke causing environmental issues. It also has very low maintenance.

The stirrer gets better drain but cause dross to burn which loses recovery. It’s cheap to buy but expensive to operate. The paddles that stir the dross wear quickly away and need frequent replacing. If you want cheap solution stirrer is not bad.

But with high metal values dross press usually always wins economic evaluation.

Dross press can help in cooling salt cake which is good if you recover aluminum from salt cake by crushing and do not send to landfill. If you don’t press your loss 2-4% aluminum in salt cake. And when you make 1000 tons per month this is a lot of money. That’s why big salt cake generators like cooling salt cake some use press others use rotary cooler.

Most of time, when you use the stirrer, you can see big drain and do not see the burning of aluminum since 1% aluminum lost in oxidation process/minute when dross is above 320c.


For the aluminum inside of dross, how can we get the max aluminum by dross press.

1, Quickly squeeze to recover the aluminum.
2, Quickly squeeze to reduce the temperature below 320 ℃ to stop oxidation to make aluminum skull and keep the aluminum inside of dross not burning with oxidation.
3, Good dross press plus TRF, the good operation can make the recovery to 90%
4, Example, basing one good operation: if you have 1000kgs dross, aluminum inside is around 60%, so aluminum is around 500kgs-600kgs, after dross press squeezes, the sow pan you can get 20% of 60%, so 200kgs plus skull recovery 35% of 60%-350kgs, so total recovery 95% so total recovery of dross press and TFR will around 550kgs, then the dross will leave 5%.
If you still need to recover 5%, you can use mill and screen machine and then sell the dross by then.
