I left Colorado knowing I would miss it, but also knowing it was time to keep moving. Colorado has a way of pulling you in and making you comfortable, especially when you find a rhythm there. The longer I stayed, the more familiar everything became, and familiarity is usually my cue that it’s time to go see what’s next.

This video picks up right after that transition. I made my way into South Dakota and started exploring the area slowly, without a plan, letting the land introduce itself instead of trying to force an experience. I am living full time out of my 1995 Casita Deluxe with my dog Pike, and this kind of travel suits places like this in a way I didn’t fully understand until I arrived.

South Dakota feels quieter than Colorado at first, but the space here is different. The roads stretch farther. The land opens up in subtle ways. There is less visual noise and more room to think. It is the kind of place that doesn’t ask for your attention immediately but rewards you if you give it time.
Most of the exploring I am doing here is off road. Nothing extreme or dramatic, just long dirt roads, uneven trails, and remote stretches that feel forgotten by most people passing through. This is the kind of overlanding I enjoy most, where the goal is not to conquer terrain but to see where it leads. The 2021 Toyota 4Runner has had absolutely no issue handling these roads while towing the Casita, which makes this style of travel feel relaxed instead of tense. That reliability matters when you are traveling solo. It allows you to focus on the experience instead of constantly worrying about whether you made the wrong turn. Being able to explore off grid without feeling rushed or pressured changes the entire mood of a place.

Living full time in a small travel trailer shapes every decision I make out here. The Casita is simple, functional, and familiar in the best way. I know where everything is. I know how it behaves in wind, rain, and temperature swings. That consistency gives me freedom. It allows me to stay longer when a place feels right and move on quickly when it does not. Pike has been loving the change of scenery. New smells, new trails, and wide open spaces suit him just as much as they suit me. Traveling with a dog changes the way I move through the world, and I think it makes me a better traveler. I pay attention to the ground, the weather, and the pace of the day in a way I probably would not otherwise.

This video is not about hitting famous landmarks or checking off must see locations. It is about what full time RV living actually looks like when you are moving between regions. Some days are full of driving and exploration. Other days are quiet and still. Both are part of this lifestyle, and both are important. I have been living on the road for several years now, and every new place teaches me something different. South Dakota has already reminded me how much I value space, simplicity, and the ability to slow down. There is less pressure here to be somewhere specific, and that has made the experience feel more grounded.

A lot of it is quiet observation, routine, and small moments that add up over time. This channel is about learning as I go. I do not have everything figured out, and I do not pretend to. I share what I am experiencing in real time, including the uncertainty, the mistakes, and the calm moments in between. That honesty is important to me, even if it does not always fit into a neat highlight reel.
