Though it was programmed before Sofia Gubaidulina’s death in March 2024 at the age of 92, her Meditation on J.S. Bach’s so-called “deathbed chorale” now takes on the character of a final benediction, befitting a composer whose entire body of work was shaped by spiritual quest.
