Khalid Nabi Cemetery (Persian: گورستان خالد نبی, "Cemetery of the Prophet Khaled") is a cemetery in northeastern Iran's Golestan province near the border with Turkmenistan, roughly 60 kilometres (40 mi) northeast of Gonbad-e Kavous city, in the Gokcheh Dagh hills of Turkmen Sahra. It is mainly situated on a mountain ridge about 1 km distance from the mausoleum called “Khaled Nabi” who according to oral tradition of the Yomut Turkomans was a pre-Islamic prophet and whose mausoleum is visited by them for pilgrimage together with the neighbouring one of Ata Chofun ("Father Shepherd"), his son-in-law.
To the east of Alam Baba's tomb, on a series of earthen hills whose height is much lower than the height of Khalid Nabi's shrine, there is a vast cemetery with a stunning and strange view, whose tombstones are seen in the form of cylinders with a height of 2 meters or more. . It seems that more than 600 tombstones are found in Khalid Nabi cemetery. The scattering of these stones is on the slopes of the central mountain and the eastern mountain, and some other tombstones are located individually in the surrounding hills that dominate the thousand valleys.
In 1979 and 1980, David Stronach found more than 600 standing stones, spread over several locations. The tombstones of this cemetery are carved from solid stones and are cylindrical and cross-shaped. In the public media, the stones are often introduced as examples of genital architecture and described as one of the important tourist attractions. Visitors have described the cylindrical tombstones as male penises. According to some [who?], the simile of these gravestones to a male penis is a false simile, and its appearance is described in such a way that the hat itself is described at the top and the waist scarf of the men at the bottom, and the tombstones that have two rings at the bottom, The indicator of the Pahlavi shawl in that period was used in addition to the shawl worn by men around the waist. Also, the length of the tombstones are made longer or shorter depending on the position of that person, the grave of women is also in the shape of a woman's breast and bra and has a flat surface, and all women's graves are facing north. It is said that this cemetery belongs to the Paleolithic era.
