May 1945, Liverpool Internment Camp, New South Wales— Victory in Europe has just been declared, but 37 teenage German soldiers are refusing to board the deportation ships back to their devastated homeland. These boys, some as young as 14 when captured, have spent years behind barbed wire in the Australian outback and now face an impossible choice: return to a country of rubble and starvation where they're strangers, or fight to stay in the nation that made them prisoners of war.
