Soleus strengthening variations: I find that the traditional bent knee heel raise exercise to target the soleus muscle is a technically challenging exercise for the inexperienced. So here are 2 alternatives; the wall sit heel rise, and the loaded seated calf raise.
Hot tip: don't be shy with the weight added to the seated calf raise; a goal should be able to lift your bodyweight (eventually).
Why is soleus important? Research has shown that the soleus produces forces during running 8x body weight vs gastrocnemius 3x body weight (Schache et al, 2014)
