This is a short, home movie about the windmill known as "Jill" on Clayton Down near Ditchling in East Sussex (UK). Jill was built in 1821 in Brighton, and moved to Clayton in 1851/1852. I work as a volunteer steward at Jill on one or two Sunday afternoons every month from April to September each year, and took the opportunity recently to film parts of the mill in order to describe its mechanism and how it works.
The mill is conserved and maintained by members of the Jack & Jill Windmills Society, formed in 1978, and is always on the lookout for volunteers to help with stewarding, counter work and maintenance. If you live locally and are interested in helping out, contact:
