As wedding filmmakers we are always looking for the best gear for wedding videos and one of those pieces of gear would be finding the best gimbal for wedding videos. However, you don't just need the right tools, you need to know how to use them. These are what I consider to be the best gimbal movements for wedding videos and can help you make better wedding films.

These gimbal movement tips will help you tell better stories with more striking visuals and ultimately help you improve your wedding videography. These wedding film tips and tricks will work with gimbals for dslr or any other type of gimbal and are not just specific to the models I mention.

Gimbal move #1 is the tracking shot. This is a simple straight gimbal move forward or backwards and there are certain parts of a wedding day that I love to use this. The most important is time with the bride and groom. I often have them walk and hold hands and I will either be in front of them or behind them, following them with a tracking shot on the Zhiyun Crane. I also use this movement more subtly during prep as well as to show off some wider wedding ceremony or wedding reception details.

Gimbal movement #2 is the jib or crane shot. This is a simple movement coming down or up but is great as a wide establishing shot for large spaces, which works great for wedding films.

And finally, the best gimbal movement in our opinion is the parrallax movement. This is a super subtle slide and rotation that works great to add a little bit of movement to a shot, but not so much that it can't but cut next to other shots with movement in it. I love to use this during many parts of the day, typically including people, and especially the bride and groom. I definitely keep this in mind when figuring out how to pose the bride and groom for wedding videos.
