WHAT HAPPENED TO LEON TROTSKY?
In 1917, Leon Trotsky stood beside Lenin and changed the world forever. He organised the Bolshevik takeover of Russia, built an army of millions, and won a civil war. Lenin himself admitted the revolution would have failed without him.
Then Stalin came to power.
Within years, Trotsky was expelled from the Communist Party, exiled from the Soviet Union, and hunted across the world. But that wasn't enough for Stalin. He ordered something far more sinister — a systematic erasure of Trotsky from history itself.
Teams of government censors worked in secret — retouching photographs, reprinting encyclopedias, rewriting textbooks — removing Trotsky from the historical record one image at a time. Generations of Soviet citizens grew up never knowing he existed.
On August 20, 1940, a Soviet agent tracked Trotsky to his home in Mexico City and assassinated him with an ice axe.
The man who co-made the Russian Revolution died in exile — already erased from the country he helped build.
