Finally got to ride the train again after missing out on it last year due to the train having some mechanical problems. Obviously nothing has changed from the last few decades, but I believe the locomotive was recently overhauled, as the engine sounds slightly different. The bell now rings more consistently, and it sounds like the warning announcement was changed. This locomotive in particular is number 59 (not written on the sides but can be seen on the serial number), built in 1967, as it has the throttle style that was used until 1982. Interestingly, the smoke box door reads "Chance Mfg Co." like Turtle Back Zoo Railroad No. 199, but the back reads "Chance Rides Inc." like Turtle Back Zoo Railroad No. 306. The stickers on the back were most likely replaced at one point, as the Chance Rides name wasn't implemented until 1986 beginning with locomotive 211.
Since last year, the two intermediate crossings have opened up again, a sign of slowly returning to normal. So the train is now whistling at all four locations once again instead of just the first and fourth crossings. All of this is just perfect for this trip! No first seat ride this time, but close enough. So I hope you enjoy the ride! Oh, and watch the train, please.
