Nickel–containing alloys have been used in the oil and gas industry for over 60 years. Originally these were mainly nickel chromium-molybdenum alloys, but towards the end of the century new grades of stainless steel were developed that had good corrosion resistance in oilfield fluids.
Since that time, the early alloys have continued to be used, and many applications have been found for the newer austenitic and duplex stainless steels, where they offered a lower-cost solution. The higher nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys are used for particularly
demanding applications In this video, the corrosion resistance of both groups of alloys will be discussed with case histories to show problems and successful applications
