This adorable French bisque doll is circa 1899 by Jules Steiner. The wind-up mechanism works perfectly, and when wound, the doll kicks the arms and legs and makes a "mama" sound. The Steiner Gigoteur originated in the 1870s, a quite ingenious invention for the time. This doll is later in the series with the 1889 Medaille d'Or stamp. The stamp refers to the gold medal won by Steiner that year at the international exhibition in Paris. Some trivia for you. The Eiffel tower was built as a symbol of this exhibition. The doll has no damage on the solid dome head, gorgeous blue enamel eyes, painted lashes, dark eyeliner, and the body is in good condition. There is one pointer finger reglued on the right hand, which is the only thing to note. She is wearing a lovely antique dress with antique undergarments, all freshly costumed by Linda in our doll shop. You can see the complete makeover of this fantastic doll on YouTube! We nicknamed this ultra-fun doll "Giggy!"
