The rigid-jointed frame structure below is subject to an applied
leftward displacement of 25 mm at node B, an applied rightward
force of 3 kN is applied to node D, and an applied clockwise moment
of 2 kNm at node C. All members deform elastically and are made of
Elgiloy with modulus E=192 GPa. Axial deformation can be neglected.
The length of members AB and JH is 2 m, of members BH and CD is 1
m, and of members BC and DH is 0.5 m. The cross-section of each
member is square with area A=50 mm×50 mm
Solve for the horizontal displacement and rotation of all nodes, as
well as the reaction forces and reaction moments at the supports
1) Include a screenshot of a model in your PDF file. Identify the
joint with the most amount of displacement and annotate your
last name beside it
2) Find reaction forces and displacement of each nodes from
your .rpt file. Will the structure yield if the yield strength of the
material is 200MPa?
