iPhone 17 Pro ProRes RAW Open Gate Test | Cinematic Hike 🌲📱
I took the iPhone 17 Pro on a hike and finally tested ProRes RAW Open Gate with my SanDisk SSD. The image quality is incredible. Honestly the most beautiful footage I’ve captured on an iPhone.
I absolutely loved shooting in Open Gate. I can understand now why so many filmmakers rave about it on other cameras. Having that extra height in the frame makes the footage feel more immersive and cinematic.
Of course, there are some downsides. File sizes are huge, and without stabilization it can be tricky in handheld shots. Editing in DaVinci Resolve was an amazing experience, but even on my M1 MacBook Pro I had to drop playback quality to keep things smooth. Realistically, I can’t shoot everything in RAW unless I invest in way more storage and power.
This was just a quick shoot and edit to see what ProRes RAW Open Gate can really do. Let me know what you think.
