Parents in Clark County are divided over the decision to change school start times beginning next school year.
As parents prepare for the new start times taking effect in August, many are asking what the busing situation will look like and how the district plans to pay for it.
District says more drivers, buses needed
Clark County School District leaders say additional transportation will be required after adjusting school start times for all grade levels.
The district serves nearly 280,000 students and operates the nation’s largest school bus fleet.
“We do operate the nation's largest school bus fleet, transporting over 120,000 students daily, servicing 31,000 stops, said CCSD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jesse Welsh.
With the first day of school set for August 10, the district says it will need to hire 51 additional bus drivers.
Superintendent Jhone Ebert said the decision centers on student well-being.
“The decision to adjust start times is a commitment to student health, safety, and academic achievement," she said.
