This episode of Richard’s Stories explores prints 7–13, often referred to as the Rainbow Women — an early preliminary series by Paul Jacoulet.
The series honors many Chamorro women, each depicted individually and with care. Their diaphanous costumes and calm presence are unified through a progression of luminous color, creating a visual rhythm when the prints are seen together.
In this video, Richard takes time to look closely at the prints themselves — examining dealer tags, searching for print numbers, and discussing why these works function so strongly as a group while still preserving the individuality of each woman portrayed.
This early series offers insight into Jacoulet’s approach: attention, respect, and the use of color as a way of honoring the people he chose to depict.
