Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) when Congress adjourned without coming to a resolution regarding an expiring eviction moratorium, decided to stage a one-woman sit-in on the steps outside the Capitol. Rep. Bush stayed there, even slept there some nights, for five days, until the Biden administration decided to step in and extend the eviction moratorium for most of the country through October 3.
We watch a clip of Cori Bush appearing on CNN with a woman, Dasha Kelly, whose story was publicized and whose GoFundMe page to help her pay rent was inundated with donations. She's overcome with gratitude for everything, and thanks Rep. Bush for her extraordinary efforts to help people like herself. Bush makes it clear that helping people keep a roof over their heads and their families' heads is the absolute LEAST that representatives should be expected to do for their constituents.

Emma Vigeland: All right let's get into this Cori Bush clip. So the other day there was this woman named Dasha Kelly. I think a lot of money was raised for her on GoFundMe, which of course news loves these stories, because it distracts from cultural critiques. Long story short, though she was facing eviction on Monday and as Representative Cori Bush was camping out on the steps of Congress to save the moratorium, she was facing immense insecurity and did not know what her and her kids were going to do. She lost her job as a car dealer in a casino in Las Vegas due to the pandemic. Eleven million Americans are behind on rent right now, and could have been facing eviction were it not for the actions of Cori Bush and calling attention to the expiration of the eviction moratorium and forcing the Biden administration's hand.
Cori Bush was brought on air with Dasha Kelly, and it was a really beautiful scene. Let's take a look.
Dasha Kelly: I'm just so fortunate right now, this is beyond me. You don't understand, like... When I put that up, I never thought that anybody would, anybody would have reached out. Especially CNN. And then to hear that a congressperson... it reached... my story reached you? This is just amazing. I'm so thankful that there's people like you out there. I'm so thankful for it. Thank you so much. I'm sorry.
Cori Bush: You and your family... No. You and your family deserve representatives that care about you. Our country deserves to have representatives that represent. And so this is the least that we can do for you, is to step up and make sure that you get to stay in the safety and the comfort of your home while we work on other things to help make sure that your life and the lives of your children are better. This is our work. So you don't even have to thank us. This is our work. This is the least we can do for you.
Emma Vigeland: It really is the least that that can be done for her. Because unfortunately, the Biden administration did not prioritize extending the eviction moratorium via Congress. If they are claiming, and that's what they are claiming, that they are not sure that it's constitutional for it to be done via the CDC, which is what Kavanaugh decided because he's a political actor as a Justice...
Matt Lech: Or like passive aggressively decided it wasn't an official decision, right, it was a footnote.
