Wild Childrens pythons facts and information. Childrens pythons belong to the genus antaresia which are some of the smallest pythons in the world. They are native to Northern Australia and grow to 1-1.5 meters long (3-5 feet). These two pythons were found road cruising and were relocated and released about 20 meters from that spot. Childrens pythons were named in honor of a zoologist who had the last name Children and coincidentally, their tiny size and gentle demeanor makes them an excellent choice for young (and old) snake enthusiasts looking for their first pet python. Like just about anything with a mouth, Childrens pythons can bite, but don't have a reputation for being nippy. Of the four wild specimens I documented in the wild in the Northern Territory Australia, none of them tried to defend themselves by biting.
Childrens python (Antaresia childreni) belong to the genus antaresia which are the smallest pythons in the world. The smallest python species is the children's python's cousin the anthill python or pygmy python (antaresia perthensis) which can be found in Western Australia and grows to 50 cm (19.5 in).
