So, after almost a year of living with the P1G4 that was waay too hot and way too loud from basically day 1, I've decided to do a repaste.
Looked at lots of info online (mostly from www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad), ordered everything, and the results are amazing.
My workload is a shit ton of opened browsers and tabs (over 100 combined tabs opened), some VS code, outlook, teams (quite a cpu hog, mind you), some youtube or twitch in the background, sometimes spotify.
My temps were idling at 60-70 degrees and the fans were constantly on making quite some noise, especially annoying since my previous laptop was X1 Carbon gen 7 that was basically silent unless under stress. The temps after the repaste are ridiculously low compared to before (idling at 45, maxing out at barely 70), especially since I was getting even into 100 degrees Celsius as max temps. The fans are spinning, but barely, BARELY audible.
If your P1/X1E is loud and hot, I implore you to do a repaste with proper stuff - I've been reborn. I love this laptop again :)
I've used Gelid Solutions GP-Ultimate pads in 0.5mm and 2mm thickness, and Gelid Solutions Thermal Compound GC-Extreme paste for the CPU and GPU. I've also removed the rear mesh in front of the vents, as some have mentioned that that is quite a bottleneck in the cooling process.
