At the Oct 15, 2026 unveiling at SpaceX's Texas test site, the Roadster climbed a curved ramp, flipped, cleared a Cybercab, Cybertruck, Semi, Model Y and Model 3, and landed in a cloud of condensation. Tesla's VP of vehicle engineering Lars Moravy says 10 cold-gas thrusters are fed by 600 liters of compressed air, stored in carbon-fiber pressure tanks (COPVs) packed into every usable void in the car. Cold gas means nothing is burned: the air just blasts out of nozzles.

The same idea flew in space in 1984: on Feb 7, 1984, Bruce McCandless made the first untethered spacewalk, steering NASA's Manned Maneuvering Unit with 24 gaseous-nitrogen thrusters.

Musk says production starts in 2028. The Roadster was first shown in 2017 with production promised for 2020. Reservations are $50,000 (Performance, no thrusters) and $250,000 (Thrust); the full-thruster "Rocket" version is invite-only and not approved for public roads.
