To beat Texas A&M in the 2025 game, Texas must contain the Aggies' dynamic quarterback Marcel Reed, win the battle in the trenches, and have a consistently productive Arch Manning-led offense. A&M is currently undefeated and looking to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship, raising the stakes in Austin.


Offensive keys for Texas
Protect Arch Manning and generate a consistent offense. While Manning has shown flashes of potential, the Texas offensive line has been inconsistent this season. A&M's strong defensive line will aim to pressure Manning all game, so Texas must give him time to operate.

Execute the quick passing and screen game. Coach Steve Sarkisian has adapted the offense to rely on the quick passing game and screen passes to neutralize defensive pressure. Texas needs to win these perimeter battles to avoid long-yardage situations on third down.

Establish a running game. In the 2024 matchup, Texas's ground attack was a key to winning the line of scrimmage battle. Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner must be effective to take pressure off the passing game.

Defensive keys for Texas
Contain Marcel Reed's mobility. A&M quarterback Marcel Reed is an elite athlete who can extend plays and create opportunities with his legs. The Longhorns' defense has struggled at times against mobile quarterbacks this season and must keep Reed in the pocket.

Limit explosive plays. A&M's offense is one of the nation's best at creating explosive plays. Texas's secondary and linebackers must prevent wide receivers from breaking free for big gains to keep the Aggie offense in check.

Step up without key players. Texas will be without linebacker Ty'Anthony Smith for the first half due to a targeting penalty, and leading tackler Anthony Hill Jr. is uncertain to return from a hand injury. The defense must overcome these absences.


Intangibles and game management
Leverage home-field advantage. As this year's game is in Austin, the Longhorns can benefit from a raucous home crowd. A&M head coach Mike Elko, however, has stressed the importance of managing emotions in this rivalry game, knowing that wanting a win too badly can lead to mistakes.
