Thule Sidearm Bike Rack Installation Instructions

Описание: How to assemble and install the Thule 594XT Sidearm Bike Rack on top of your car. Before purchasing, we read many reviews about the... uhm... lack of clarity and intuitiveness in the Thule instructions. So we recorded our assembly as best we could along the way.

Installation took us about 1 hour, but now that I've done it once, I'm sure I could do it alone in 15 minutes. I hope this video will help you find a satisfying time in between.

We opted for the sidearm model because it does not require removing the front wheel to secure the bike. HUGE plus for us and we were able to use locks that matched our cargo box. We bought the Thule bike rack in person at R.E.I. after doing the research.

Any mistakes we made during assembly, I tried to mention on the voiceover so you know we did fix them before driving. Near the end, it looks like the bike carrier is bouncing on the rack. That's because when we filmed that part, we hadn't yet secured the carrier to the rack. So don't worry, it's quite sturdy when finished!

At the end I also mention that the ratchet wasn't tight enough when I drove on the highway. The front wheel slipped off and onto the top of the car, but remained there, hanging just a bit crooked. It was an easy fix to remove the basket, which is better for the aerodynamics anyway. So no, the bike didn't go flying off. It just needed to be adjusted upon arrival.
