This video presents a fine game from "Game Changer" in celebration of our book being awarded the FIDE Averbakh-Boleslavsky Award 2019. The featured game shows AlphaZero's aggressive treatment of the King's Indian Samisch variation as Black. AlphaZero follows up an early march of the rook's pawn to h3 with a daring knight sacrifice to blow open White's centre. In the ensuing chaos, threats to the White king abound but Stockfish finds a narrow path to force a perpetual check. The final position with 2 queens on the board is spectacular!
Very nicely, this opening was repeated in the recent Season 18 Superfinal between LeelaZero and Stockfish (covered here    • Chess giants #34. Crazy King’s Indian Sami...  ) where once again sacrifices weer the order of the day!

Matthew Sadler is a Grandmaster and 2-times British Chess Champion, ranked 41st in the world and 2nd in the UK on the December 2019 FIDE Rating List. He is the author of 7 chess books, 3 of which - The Queen's Gambit Declined and Chess for Life (also co-authored with Natasha Regan) and of course Game Changer! - won the prestigious English Chess Federation Book of the Year Prize.

Natasha Regan is a Women's International Master from England who achieved a degree in mathematics from Cambridge University. She has represented England internationally at both Chess and Go.
