J: Aww. Caty’s son went on his first date the other night. Isn’t it great when young people are in love?
A: Well, it’s just puppy love. He’s only 13. I doubt it’s serious.
J: You don’t think they’re on the road to a lasting relationship?
A: Jonathan, he’ll probably have another “girlfriend” by next week.
"Puppy love" refers to the strong feelings a person can have at the start of a relationship. The phrase is often used when two young people really like each other. It might seem like “puppy love” doesn’t last, but sometimes it does!
