Consumer review of different brands of snap caps ( dummy rounds, practice rounds ) Practice rounds, or " snap caps " are great for training and teaching new shooters how to properly load magazines and cycle their guns, as well as training for mis-fires or jams and FTF & FTE drills. They are also used for dry firing and trigger practice. It's a good idea when using snap caps to keep the training area clear and free of live ammunition, especially in a group training environment. If you just purchased a new gun, it's good to pop in a snap cap and practice your trigger pulls. This will 'break in' and smooth out a new trigger, as well as get your hand muscles and fingers adjusted to the new trigger. If you want to shoot faster and more accurately when live firing target practice, then you'll need to spend some time dry firing.
