Protesters are planning to gather in Uptown Charlotte on Friday outside a local developer's office to protest claims that the company is looking to sell a Concord property to the Department of Homeland Security for an ICE detention center.
Indivisible Charlotte posted on social media that it is planning a protest outside the Crescent Communities office on South Tryon Street. The organization claims Crescent Communities is looking to sell a plot of land on Weddington Road in Concord to DHS.
In a statement to WCNC Charlotte, Crescent Communities denied the claim, saying it has no lease, agreement, negotiations or proposed plans with DHS, ICE, Border Patrol or any related federal agency with any of its properties, including the Weddington Road location. A Crescent spokesperson told WCNC Charlotte that the use suggested by Indivisible Charlotte would not be permitted under the property's current zoning.
"We respect the right to peaceful protest, but the underlying claim prompting this demonstration is inaccurate," the company said. #News #ICE #Immigration
