EN - After the war, organizations such as the Red Cross and Mens in Nood placed newspaper advertisements asking families to host and foster children in need from neighboring countries. In this video, we see Hungarian children that have come to the Netherlands to recuperate. After six months they go back to Hungary by train from Utrecht. On the return trip, the train will take 500 Austrian children who will, in turn, be cared for in our country by foster families. Many of the train journeys began and ended in Utrecht, the main train hub of the country.

NL - Na de oorlog plaatsten organisaties als het Rode Kruis en Mens in Nood advertenties in kranten waarin gezinnen werden gevraagd om buitenlandse kinderen in nood tijdelijk op te vangen. In deze video zien we Hongaarse kinderen die naar Nederland zijn gekomen om te herstellen. Na een half jaar gaan ze met de trein, vanaf Utrecht, terug naar Hongarije. Op de terugreis naar Nederland, neemt de trein 500 Oostenrijkse kinderen mee, die op hun beurt in ons land worden opgevangen door pleeggezinnen. Veel van de treinreizen begonnen en eindigden in Utrecht, het belangrijkste treinknooppunt van het land.
