Namaste, We are Pooja and Shirish and Welcome to the New Episode of ‪@RedSoilStories‬
The monsoon rain has slowed down a bit. Pooja went to the market Early in the morning to get some groceries. She brought Bengal gram and Jaggery, I think she is cooking some special dish.
Raja the cat was waiting for her if she bring any fish for her but to his disappointment she didn't get any fish that day.
I got to know in the night that she is preparing for "Khaproli" and "Sweet coconut milk" (खापरोळी आणि नारळाचा रस ). It is a Tradition Maharashtrian Dish indigenous to Kokan region. It is also called as Traditional Malvani Khaproli and sweet coconut milk (पारंपरिक मालवणी खापरोळी आणि रस).
The recipe is very simple and needs very few ingredients. All you need for khaproli is Rice, Bengal gram, Split black gram, Fenugreek seeds and for Sweet coconut milk you need coconut, jaggery, cardamom, cumin seeds etc.
Usually Khaproli is prepared for breakfast it is an easy recipe for breakfast but you need to start preparing for it a day advance.
Pooja Soaked the rice and grams in the morning and once they are well soaked for 8 hours she ground them on the Grinding stone. The batter is smoked with ghee and again kept for fermentation for another 8 hours. It is kept overnight and in the next morning Pooja started preparing Khaproli and Naralacha ras ( Sweet Coconut milk ).
In a village life that we are living this breakfast is considered as a delicacy. These village food are very rarely cooked in modern days and cities. These village breakfast recipes need to get revived in this fast food era.
We enjoyed the Khaproli and sweet coconut milk ( Khaproli ani naralacha ras ) and Raja also( cat ) forgot about the fish and had tummy full of khaproli and slept the whole day.
