INGREDIENTS.

Cake batter (any flavor you like, about 6 cups)
Wilton's 3D sports ball cake pans
Black Fondant
White fondant
Buttercream or frosting (about 3 cups)
Cake board
Cake turntable
Small offset spatula
Fondant cutter and embosser
Pentagon and Hexagon templates: MEASUREMENTS (3 cm on each side of the pentagon and hexagon)

INSTRUCTIONS.

1. FIll sports ball pans 3/4 of the way and bake at 350 degrees fahrenheit for 30-45 minutes. Also bake an extra thin layer of chocolate cake, if your batter is vanilla flavored, you can use a food coloring, but if it is any other flavor you might need to bake a separate chocolate cake batter.. It can be baked in any pan you have in hand, it doesn't have to be the squared one, Thats just the one i had on hand. Let them cool completely before decorating
2. In the meantime, roll out a thick layer of white fondant and cut 18-20 pieces of hexagons. Then roll out a thick layer of black fondant and cut out 12-15 pieces of pentagons. Place them in a baking sheet and cover them with plastic wrap or foil so they don't dry out .
3. When the cake is cooled, use a sharp knife to cut out a small piece off the bottom of one piece of cake, this will end up being the bottom piece of the ball, and cutting a small piece off will help it stand on the cake board. Level both halves of the cake so the fit together perfectly, then stick them together with frosting, and give the whole ball a fist coat . Refrigerate it for 30 minutes, then give a second coat and refrigerate for 30 more minutes.
4. Wet your hands a little and smooth out the frosting.
5. Roll out a layer of white fondant as thin as you can and cover you cake, smooth it out and cut off the excess from the bottom. It will look lumpy but the thick pieces of fondant that will go on top will cover that.
6. Brush water on the back of the fondant pieces and put them in place. You can start wherever you want but start with a Pentagon , then place hexagons all around. Follow that pattern until the soccer ball is completed. You might have to trim a few pieces to fit in the bottom of the ball, depending where you started.
7. Use the fondant cutter with the embosser piece to recreate the stitching the soccer ball has. Go around the edge of every single piece of fondant.
8. Place the finished soccer ball on the cake board with a little bit of frosting at the bottom, then use the extra layer of cake to place pieces all around the ball, like if the ball was on a field and that was dirt.
9. Fill a piping tip with a star tip or a grass tip and pipe grass all around the ball, covering the empty spaces and covering as much as the dirt as you want.
