EESC Youth Test: strengthening youth participation in EU policymaking

Описание: The EESC Youth Test is a tool adopted by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) to strengthen youth participation and ensure youth mainstreaming in EU policymaking. Introduced in September 2022 and supported by a methodology approved in April 2024, it enables youth representatives and organisations to contribute directly to the opinion-making process.

Through this initiative, selected youth organisations can express interest in upcoming EESC opinions relevant to their expertise and take part in consultations, impact assessments and mitigation discussions. When an opinion is selected for the Youth Test, a youth representative is appointed to participate in study group meetings, contribute to discussions on the impact of policies on young people and provide written input.

Study groups typically include EESC members, a president, a rapporteur, advisors and the secretariat, with meetings held in hybrid format. Participation may involve online or in-person meetings in Brussels, with travel expenses covered for eligible representatives travelling more than 100 km.

The EESC Youth Test represents a concrete step toward making civil society proposals youth-proof and ensuring that young voices are heard in EU decision-making.
